Her fastidiously woven web spans the breadth of a leaf. I can barely see it but for the glint of the sun’s rays on its silky strands. She is watching me but remains poised at its center like a raindrop suspended mid-fall. I came to harvest some basil but I’ll leave this plant be for the vigil of this eight-legged sentry is more important than the flavor of my dinner.
