Back in September 2022, while on a camping trip to Michigan, I sat by the fire with copper plate and drypoint scribe in hand. Lake Gogebic was as beautifully broody as always, but it was a recurring flash and flutter of dusty blue and white which caught my eye. The fire crackled as I scratched an image into copper: kingfisher, tree, lake.
Once I got back to my studio though, other commitments pulled me away and this handsome creature didn’t get any attention for another seven months! It’s been a while since I’ve printed a woodcut together with a drypoint (a fairly unconventional pairing). I’m delighted with the outcome and hope you are too!
