Welcome to Great River Press

GREAT RIVER PRESS, STOCKHOLM, WI

ADDRESS: W12103 State Hwy 35, Stockholm, WI 54769

For several years, I have been thinking about how to secure a thriving future for my artistic practice in these tumultuous times. Out of these musings, I came to two conclusions: First, despite keeping my studio in the city for almost two decades, my work has remained deeply rooted in the wilds of nature. For the sake of my creative soul, I needed to find a way to get physically back to that environment. Second, in order to financially secure my studio practice and insulate it from the unpredictability of the world in which we now find ourselves, I needed to own, rather than rent, my studio space.

With these needs in mind, I happened upon the perfect solution last fall in a small commercial building in the artsy river town of Stockholm, Wisconsin. In December of 2025, I purchased that lovely building overlooking the Mississippi River as it runs through Lake Pepin and meanders between the picturesque bluffs it helped to create. I have been spending the time since planning and preparing to move my studio back to nature and my small-town roots.

While my studio practice will be leaving the city, I will continue living on the east side of Saint Paul in the beautiful, diverse, and vibrant community I have come to love deeply. I do not view this studio move as an exodus, but rather as a return to nature and an embrace of the artistic inspiration which has always driven my work.

My new studio and gallery, Great River Press, opened in Stockholm on June 5-7, 2026 for Fresh Art Tour. A Grand Opening Celebration is planned for July 25. For now, my regular open studio hours will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm. I anticipate being open weekends throughout the summer and fall. Planned closures will be posted on my Events Page. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more updates, sneak peeks at my new building, and process images of all the new woodcuts on which I’m toiling away!

Plan a visit to Great River Press to see new works and be the first to learn about my newest projects! If my normal open studio hours don't work well for your schedule, private studio visits are also available by appointment. Contact me at 231-590-2274 or emily@studioegk.com.
