They were perched on crumbing cliffsides like strange top-heavy birds, for nothing else, it seemed, could manage such a height without the aid of wings. Adorned with hefty spiraling crowns, they looked down from their ledges like the kings they knew themselves to be. Below them, my feet firmly set on the solid ground, I was but a curiosity, an interloper, nothing but a trifle in their eyes.
