Cicada Song
Cicada Song

Their song is unmistakable, a high pitched buzzing called out in unison like a flash mob of sound. I can feel it as much as hear it, vibrating through me like some primordial signal; summer is here! I know who sings this song: fleshy, substantial beasts of the insect realm perched high above in the tree canopy. I’ll admit their physical form may cause some to recoil, but who ever said the heralds of summer had to be beautiful? I care not, so long as they sing.
